Selecting a Real Estate Agent:

Once you have decided to take the step from renting to buying, it is important that you carefully choose a team to work with you through the process.

Think of your buying team as the Red Sox. Your role is like that of Theo Epstein the General Manager; you are in charge.  You have the ability to interview and hire people who you think will work well together and will lead you to success.  You also have the ability to fire your managers and your players if they are not performing to your expectations.

Within the team, the Real Estate Agent acts as a manager, in this example Terry Francona, leading you through the buying process.  The Real Estate Agent will map out a game plan, advise decisions, and help you select other key players that will contribute to the successful purchase of a property.

Because the Real Estate Agent plays such a major role in the outcome, it is very important that you select someone who is compatible with you, dedicated and dependable.

Listed below are some characteristics of a great Real Estate Agent:

A Real Estate Agent that represents you as a buyer is called a Buyer’s Broker.  A Buyer’s Broker solely represents the interests of their client who is in the process of buying property.

A Buyer’s Broker works on commission, like most Real Estate Agents. However you, the buyer, do not usually pay this commission.  Nine times out of ten, the Buyer’s Broker will split the commission with the Seller’s Broker, paid as a percentage of the sale price of the property.

*Not all real estate agents are Realtors.  Realtor® - A real estate agent, broker or an associate who holds active membership in a local real estate board that is affiliated with the National Association of Realtors.  NAR members adhere to a strict code of ethics and regularly attend real estate classes and courses.
